Religion and Judith....

So, today is FAT tuesday...i'd like to take some time to think about what Lent is and why is practiced...this is taken from Wiki-"Lent, in some Christian denominations, is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter.[1] The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where according to the Bible he endured temptation by Satan.[2] "

Thats cool and everyting, but y celebrate these traditions? like Easter, Christmas, and etc...they obviously have Pagan ties and were Pagan Holidays first then eventually assimilated into Christianity...whats wild, and wack...are  the people that observe these holidays, but for the rest of the year, lead a life thats contrary to what these traditions mean to uphold or stand for...you know, the ones who only go to church on easter, or only go to service on christmas eve. Id rather not go, then front for a day, or 40, then again at least they're "there" right? ha...peel back the layers of the onion, find out if what you've been taught, is just that-what you've been taught.

and now...for a dope song...

I once heard Maynard talk about this song, its basically about his mom Judith, whose very ill, but still clings to her faith, and he cant understand why a merciful God would let her suffer after shes devoted her entire life to him...but who has she devoted her life to, really?

  1. I do see where you're coming from with the whole thing about them coming from Pagan holidays, but here is my counter point. I've always believe that God can work through anything and make good out of it. Like God doesn't make bad things happen, but when bad things do happen, He uses them for good. So even though they may have been adopted from Pagan holidays, God still uses them for his own good. For me personally, the season of Lent has always been a time of getting closer to God. The whole idea of giving up something that keeps you from God has always been a difficult one, and for me the time spent meditating has usually helped me in my spiritual journey. So to me, when God uses things like a Pagan holiday it just helps me to understand how powerful He is because such a thing has helped me to get closer to Him.
